Meeting the Challenge
Sustaining a viable and thriving local food system in an urban setting brings challenges. The members of the Alliance recognize that meeting the sustainability challenge means a balancing of interests. It also means that we are all in this together. Those who make up the circular economy must do their part – the members of the Alliance are committed to do just that. While an expectation of zero impacts does not support sustainability, the inevitable impacts of maintaining a local food system within an urban environment of increasing density must be managed responsibly.
The benefits and burdens of achieving a sustainable local food and resource management circle creates both opportunities and challenges for us all. The Alliance is confident that those challenges can be met and the opportunities can be realized. The Alliance is committed to working with Metro Vancouver and other governments, together with stakeholders, to ensure that these aspirational goals can be and will be achieved.
